What’s the easiest way to fill your home with music? Just ask Alexa. We’re teaming up with Amazon to bring the Alexa voice assistant to Sonos speakers in homes around the world.

Connect Alexa to any Sonos speaker.

Starting today in open beta in the US, UK and Germany, you can connect your speakers to an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot wirelessly and control the music around your home—simply just by speaking.  This update works with all existing Sonos speakers, so it doesn’t matter whether you bought a Play:1 two years ago or a Playbase two weeks ago.

Use Alexa on your Amazon Echo Dot to control your Play:5.

Play in any room.

Control the music, podcasts, and radio stations you love all over your home without ever picking up your phone or tablet. Want to listen to a particular artist or playlist? Just tell Alexa what and where. For instance, “Alexa, play Kraftwerk in the kitchen.” To play something louder, just say, “Alexa, turn up the volume in the living room.”

What if you’ve already started a playlist with the Sonos app? No problem. Alexa and our app work together seamlessly, so you can ask her what’s playing, or tell her to skip a song whenever you want. Everything stays in sync.

Alexa will get cleverer, faster, better.

Cue and control music using just your voice when you’re listening to Amazon Music (Prime or Unlimited) and TuneIn radio. Then use voice commands to skip or repeat songs, pause the music and adjust the volume.

The more you use Alexa with your Sonos, the better she’ll get at interpreting your voice and responding to your command as Sonos and Alexa are continually updating with new features, services and skills, your music and voice options will just keep getting better and better. So keep an eye out for improvements—like fully supported voice control for Spotify, coming later this year.

Try it at home now.

Want to test Alexa out on your Sonos? Connect an Echo or Echo dot to your Sonos System. Make sure your Sonos system and app are updated to Sonos 8.0, and enable the Sonos skill in your Alexa app. Then you’re ready to join the Beta and discover an easy, hands-free way to listen out loud.
