What’s in a name?

Personality, functionality, musicality, or in this case, all of the above. That’s why Sonos has renamed our ZonePlayer 90 to CONNECT and ZonePlayer 120 to CONNECT:AMP. But don’t fret: they’re the exact same award-winning products, just with a name change and updated packaging to go with it. These new names tell it like it is, helping music lovers choose the component that’s right for them, and then listen out loud throughout the day and into the night.

Like its name suggests, you simply “connect” CONNECT to your home theater or stereo setup to stream all the music on earth to the audio equipment you already own. Similarly, the CONNECT:AMP offers an integrated 55W/channel amplifier for powering your favorite pair of speakers. See them in action in the demo video below.

    You guys really need to develop an outdoor waterproof, wireless, rechargeable speaker.  I love Sonos!

    Don’t worry about all the CAPS as Amazon still lists most of the Sonos/SONOS products in Proper case. I guess it’s nice that they are consistently using verbs for product names although its debatable whether Bridge is a verb or noun. 

    Sorry, but I still don’t care for the “:”. What happens if SONOS decides to update the PLAY:3 down the road to include a line-in jack like there should have been from the beginning? Will it be called PLAY:3.1 or PLAY:3:1?

    I think the new names are confusing.  CONNECT:AMP kind of implies that you should connect your amp to it… not that is has an amp.

    Also, how does the instruction manual (or UI) read … “connect the cable to the CONNECT” ?  Terrible.

    Surprised to see a new product announcement (even if a renaming) so close to the holidays.  Wonder if Sonos has any more new products for us before Christmas?  I’m still hoping @Target has some good Sonos deals for #BlackFriday …

    I’ve liked the new promotion, but like to remind you that it is not completely correct.
    You state that we can play music from any i-pod using your dock. I own a 3rd generation i-pod and have purchased one of your docks, it will not connect to it. I have phoned, and sent an e-mail and was told that you still have not got a fix for it. If there is now a fix please advise.

    Good move! I am the idiot who bought the Zone Player 90 and found it useless for what I wanted it. That wouldn’t have happened with the new names…

    I am wondering why you are wasting time on names of those products. I think that there are a lot of folks out there which wait for black/silver design to match the existing stereo equipement. The investment should be quite small and should boost sales a lot.
