It Happened In Music: Otis Redding and Stax
On December 7, 1967, Otis Redding wrapped up his recording of “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” at Stax Records in Memphis. During the recording session, he forgot the words to a fadeout section and substituted the whistle that famously ends the song. It would be his last session at the legendary studio. He was killed in a plane crash just three days later at the age of 26. Today’s playlist celebrates Otis Redding and Stax musicians.
