It may only be Fashion Week season in New York, but it seems the entire world is privy to the occasion.
And things at Sonos are no different.
In the spirit of creative exploration, Sonos Studio’s new exhibition cycle, Expression opened this week. Curated collaboratively by Sonos and style provocateur W Magazine, this cycle of four events will celebrate bringing together masters of their respective mediums as they transform ideas into reality. Expression will explore the convergence of fashion, photography, art, and movement, from September 12 – October 21.
How might that happen, you ask? For the haute details, read on…
The Cross Process exhibition opening, the first event in the Expression series, will take place tonight, September 13 (RSVP here). Twelve photographers handpicked by W Magazine will interpret an array of musical styles through selected pairings of imagery and songs. The track selections are listed below; the photographers’ playlist is available for streaming via Songza. Famed photo house, MILK Studios, will provide a pop-up photo studio at each event. Collected images from the pop-up photo studio will be published the following day on Facebook.com/Sonos as well as in a limited-edition book.
The second event, on September 30th, will be a photobook workshop with Los Angeles area photography students. Reuben Cox, celebrated music photojournalist and owner of Los Angeles-based Old Style Guitar Shop, will work with students to create layouts for a collective music-meets-style zine. The third event, on October 4, is a film screening of “Nobody Walks,” directed by Ry Russo-Young, co-written by “Girls” creator Lena Dunham, and music by award-winning Brooklyn band Fall On Your Sword. A Q&A and private performance by Fall On Your Sword will follow the screening.
The closing event, on October 16, will be an intimate listening party and performance by Twin Shadow, to celebrate his new album Confess.
This Expression exhibition can be viewed from 12pm – 6pm on Wednesday through Sundays from September 12th – October 21st at 145 N. La Brea in Los Angeles. Sign up for e-mail updates from the studio at: Sonos.com/studio
